Research On Propitiation (by Richard)

E-mail Print PDF

Richard researched propitiation.  He presented his research to the group on October 2, 2008.  His researched provided:

  • a definition of propitiation
  • passages in the Bible that contain the word
  • what it says about a loving AND just God

Richard used content at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association website to perform his research.  Here is a link.

Here are a couple of excerpts from the article:

The Bible says, "We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation for our sins" (1 John 2:1-2, KJV). Propitiation is the means by which God's anger is assuaged; His anger is dealt with, and God is made favorable toward us.

and...

Yet the question remains: How can God be both the One who provides the sacrifice that makes Him propitious and be the One who receives the sacrifice?

The simple answer is that God's holiness demands propitiation.
